The Vanguard School
The mission of The Vanguard School is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs. Vanguard students develop lifelong habits of excellence in virtue and intellect allowing them to prosper as classically-educated individuals advancing a free society. Our enduring nationally acclaimed program prepares graduates for advanced education, meaningful contributions to society, and a life of purpose.
We are a school of choice serving students in grades K-12 from across the Pikes Peak region. All of our teachers are highly qualified and committed to excellence in education. Teachers utilize Direct Instruction coupled with a Core Knowledge curriculum to achieve student mastery. Teachers use a classroom management approach based on the CHAMP’s model to encourage positive, respectful, on-task behavior from all students.
In addition to our academics, The Vanguard school provides students with the opportunity to develop their talents and interests and engage with the community through extracurricular activities. Concerts, plays, musicals, art exhibits, dances, and clubs are available in most grades. Students have the opportunity to participate in educational trips to various US locations and through our Global Studies Programs. We offer interscholastic athletics for boys and girls in cross country, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and track in junior high and high school. In total, we boast over 40 options for clubs or athletic programs. These extracurricular experiences profoundly enrich the lives of our students.
The Vanguard School is chartered under Cheyenne Mountain School District 12. As a District 12 school, residents of Cheyenne Mountain District 12 have priority to attend Vanguard in kindergarten through grade 12. District 12 students account for approximately twenty percent of Vanguard’s student population. The remaining students are from fourteen other school districts in the Pikes Peak region. Enrollment is determined by a lottery system which occurs annually at the end of January.
The mission of The Vanguard School is to help guide students in development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs. We believe that excellence in character and excellence in academics go hand in hand, and we strive to achieve our mission by having a coherent, aligned K-12 program in both areas.
